WINS IDSA/PLASTICS NEWS DESIGN AWARD
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: At
the 2005 Structural
Plastics Conference in Lake Buena Vista, FL many innovative, industrial products
competed for the International Designers
Society of America (IDSA)/Plastics
News Design Award. The award is presented annually to a commercial product in
recognition of the designer’s work and to highlight the results of teamwork between
designers, toolmakers, and manufacturers.
Entries included a wireless alarm
system, a plastic fuel-pump module, and a stacked, space-saving lab mouse cage system. But
ultimately, the materials, process, and potential of EverKote™ won the judges’ votes for the 2005 Design Award.
Plastics News presented
the award to Buckhorn general manager, Don Thomas and custom sales/product manager, Mike
Johnson at the Myers Industries
Annual Meeting of Shareholders on April 20, 2005.
At first, the contest judges
thought EverKote was too simple to be a design award contender. After further
consideration, however, EverKote stood out because of its potential as a building
material. According to judge Scott A. Lutz, project manager for Spartan Electronics in
DeLeon Springs, FL, “Industrial design is not just about aesthetics. We’re
curious [about] materials and processing as well.”
Lutz remarked that EverKote is
“ . . . a combination of two well-understood things, but in combination, they create
something else.” Paul McGroary, a second judge and independent designer, agreed.
“The sum of the parts is definitely greater than the whole.”
